During my placement at YMa , a community centre in Pontypridd, I led a project aimed at strengthening individuals' ties to both the community and their surroundings. Through the creation of artworks that mirrored personal connections, participants shared poignant stories about Ponty, fostering a deeper understanding of the shared experiences within the community. Beyond traditional art, we delved into spiritual and mindful creative activities, including painting with essential oils and affirmations, creating a holistic approach to self-expression. Throughout the project, participants engaged in weaving activities, producing visually compelling representations of their connections through vibrant colours. A significant outcome was a large ribbon hanging piece left within the community centre, serving as an inviting symbol to encourage people to explore the space. The close bonds I formed with the individuals during this endeavour enhanced my experience, highlighting the profound impact of art in fostering connections and a sense of belonging.
